RAISONS AND ALMONDS (A Healthy Snack)
by Vicky Shiefman
in WRITERS IN THE KITCHEN, compiled by Tricia Gardella
Story:
More than 150 children's book authors share childhood memories and
favorite recipes: breads, breakfast, soups, salads, sandwiches,
vegetables and side dishes, main dishes, desserts, cookies and cakes,
pies and tasty treats. Some recipes are long and as precise as a
regular cookbook; others say open a can, but all include heaps of
precious, and sometimes funny, memories.
My recipe has two ingredients, both good.
Background:
I had met and liked author Tricia Gardella at a Society of Children's
Book Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI) Conference in California. She
came up with this delightful idea and invited me to submit a recipe. I
was honored to be included among so many wonderful children's book
creators.
Comments:
"Not everyone knows that writers are real people. Writers eat, sleep,
write and cook. But even with a mouthful of one of their favorite
recipes, writers also have the gift of gab."
Katie McAllaster Weaver, FEFS Children's Book Reviews (Fish Eggs For The Soul)
"I can't think of a better thing to do with a child and a summer day
than read the food memories of some favorite authors and try cooking
their recipes."
Jane Kurtz, Grand Forks Herald, ND
